Laura L. Camden has been a professional photographer for the past 17 years. During her career as a photojournalist, she has been on contract with Reuters News Pictures based in Austin, Texas, covering the presidential campaign of George W. Bush.
Camden also spent five years as a staff photographer for several newspapers in Texas and New York state.
She received her master's degree in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
She took a break from her freelance career in Austin to teach photojournalism classes as a visiting professor at the University of Montana and she also has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin teaching black-and-white photojournalism courses.
Currently, she is an assistant professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona where she teaches photography and documentary studies.
Her photographic work has been published in
various newspapers
and magazines including The New York Times,
People Magazine, Austin American-Statesman
and The
Washington Post. Her work has also appeared in exhibitions in
Boston, New York and Texas.
In October 2006, Texas A&M University Press published Laura's first documentary photography book, "Mennonites in
Texas: The Quiet in the Land,"
an intimate look at the lifestyle and culture of two Texas
Mennonite communities. She donated her photographic archive to the University of
Texas at Austin's Center for American History.
